in Nigeria
BY BRENDAN ISEH
It remain a thing of joy for greater number of Nigerians
on the Victory of All Progressive Congress (APC), in the just concluded state
and national polls that brought the enthronement of APC members as state
Governors, parliamentarians, and the emergence of his Excellency Mohamadu
Buhari as the President and Commander in Chief of the arm forces. The wide
spread happiness is not only regionally observed, but internationally celebrated
occasioned by mass expression of passion for nationality and multiple symbol of
a clearly defined national honour. These also occupied every section of our public
discourse across the Northern and Southern part of the country, even the
internally displace person(s) within their discomfort zone also demonstrated
their feelings of patriotism.
To highlight the insight on the climax of the euphoria
was a circumstance that this narration may soon lead us into a lengthy script
or dilemma due to conflicting expression of joy in the phenomena. It appears so
sudden situation that precipitate strange behaviours but on their faces it was
apparent that their soul was overwhelm by joy. In the height of the euphoria a
minute pass the victory declaration by various state electoral commissioners
and INEC Chairman Prof. Atahiru Jerga. This instantly provided a new mode in
our public environ. Public jubilation was a common symbol, and a louder uproar came
to change the normal interactive pattern. The expression of joy came in
different ways by different people. The faces of our citizen in diaspora were
seen in television channel shrouded by smiles after many years in exile. Many
break into long awaiting smiles, for a rare hope, the hope of a better life, or
may be the hope for a good government, the hope for twilight after many years
in darkness by corruption and impunity. Most citizens preferred street
jubilation while some roll out their dancing drums singing ooo change in One Nigeria, Change for so long a time. Some
showed their happiness by drinking and eating their delicious meal while many
worshippers bow their heads in fasting and prayer. Earnestly, it was all over
jamboree that this article may not content it detail. Thus, various sacrifices
exercise by citizens in the circumstances may be best described as different
stroke for different folks.
