On Wednesday 2nd July, 2014 at about 3 PM the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher, Global Concord Newspaper one of the leading main opposition paper in Akwa Ibom State Mr Thomas Thomas, was arrested beaten by the men of the State Security Service( SSS), under the instruction of the state government. Medialink Newspaper also gathered that the leadership of Nigerian Union of Journalist in the state are working against any newspaper trying to oppose the government of Chief, Godswill Akpabio. The notorious activities of the body in the state because of it alliance with the state government could be describe as worrisome. NUJ's primary role is to protect the interest and right of all practicing journalist in the state but the reverse is the case in Akwa Ibom State. WHAT A SHAME! Elder Albert Akpan is a hungry NUJ Chairman in the state that promise to join with the state government to victimize renaissance journalist but he will not succeed. We stand for the truth, we will always report the truth no matter who it hurt. They should prepare their sword, we will use the pen. Why should journalist be arras while there is freedom speech? Why should NUJ be the machinery for victimizing journalist with opposing view?
